Proud of being the only city in the world named for a science-fiction character, the Flin Flon Chamber of Commerce had a statue constructed. The 24 foot high Flintabbatey Flonatin, character from the novel, "The Sunless City'; stands in the Flin Flon Tourist Park, visible to all who enter the city on Highway# 10.

Hudbay, the city's main industry began copper production in 1933 and has turned out to be one of the richest mineral finds in Canadian history as well as the largest copper mine in Manitoba. Flin Flon has help Hudbay build a solid foundation for the mine-building expertise and community engagement that distinguish them to this day. Hudbay's 777 mine (copper, zinc, gold, silver) in Flin Flon is approaching the end of its mine life after 15 stellar years. Final production is anticipated in 2022. Flin Flon helped shape Hudbay’s values of dignity and respect, caring, openness and trust, which reflects how they will manage the closure and support for the community.

The Flin Flon Trout Festival held each Canada Day weekend is the culmination of a month-long fishing derby where the winning lake trout often reaches 40 pounds.
The Flin Flon area offers a variety of snowmobiling opportunities. The trails range from relatively flat, wide, groomed trails to more challenging narrower, somewhat rougher trails through mixed forest, rocky ridges, swamps, and across a variety of small to large lakes.
Consider Flin Flon when planning a snowmobile vacation. Our snowmobile season normally starts in early December and lasts until the end of March, and although the temperature may drop to -40c occasionally, the air is dry and the winds generally light.
